A major new platform for books on prime town and city-centre sites – in the summer of 2008, Hugendubel and Weltbild opened bookshops inside many Karstadt department stores.

Weltbild now offers around 5,000 book titles under its red and white logo in Karstadt department stores. With a wide selection of books ranging from the latest bestsellers, travel books and practical guides to children’s and picture books, customers can now have fun reading during their shopping trip to Karstadt.

In Karstadt’s flagship department stores, Hugendubel is able to present the full "world of books" in bookshops with a floor space of between 500 and 700 square meters. The range of titles on offer is rounded off by a wide selection of entertainment, reference and children's books, practical guides for the entire family and top paperback highlights.

A fresh wind for the department-store book market

Innovative design, broad aisles and low-level shop fittings convey a sense of openness and spaciousness while customers are shopping for books. Weltbild and Hugendubel set the scene for their extensive range of books with special shop fittings which spotlight the individual books.

Practical guides, novels and picture books are presented in an attractive manner on tables reserved for special promotions and pyramid-shaped stands. The shelves and tables in a subtle anthracite shade are tailor-made specially for the department stores. Red stylistic elements set accents, while large lettering makes it easy for people to find their way around. Customers can relax and bury themselves in a book in comfortable sitting and reading areas.
